  1. Install without creating anything

    Download Auxility Remote from the App Store. There is no sign-up screen, no email capture and no Roku account login — the app has no server-side account to create, because it talks to your Roku directly and nothing about your setup leaves your home.

  2. Join the same Wi-Fi as the Roku

    Put your iPhone on the network the Roku already uses. If your router advertises separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names, either band is fine as long as both devices sit on the same network rather than one of them on a guest SSID.

  3. Allow local network access once

    iOS asks for Local Network permission the first time the app scans, because the app reaches the Roku directly rather than through the internet. Allow it and the prompt never returns. You can withdraw it later under Settings, Privacy & Security, Local Network.

  4. Tap your Roku and start pressing keys

    The app lists every Roku it found. Tap yours; there is no pairing code to type and no handshake to wait through, so the free button set is live immediately.

  5. Decide about PRO later, or never

    Nothing in the free tier expires or degrades. If you never want voice control, input switching or widgets, the app stays a complete free remote — the paywall appears only when you tap one of the PRO controls.

Why some free Roku remotes feel crippled and this one does not

The usual free-remote business model is to gate the buttons people need most. Volume is the classic hostage, because it is the control you reach for twenty times an evening; input switching and power come a close second. The result is an app that technically works while making every session a small negotiation.

Auxility Remote draws the line somewhere else. The free tier is everything a physical Roku remote does: navigation, OK, Home, Back, volume, mute, power, the transport keys and text entry. What the free tier costs you in ads

Honesty matters more here than marketing. The free tier carries a small banner at the foot of the screen. It is a banner, not an interstitial: it does not take over the display, it does not appear between keypresses, and there is no "watch an ad to unlock" mechanic anywhere in the app. Buying PRO removes it permanently.

That is the entire advertising footprint. If a free remote app ever asks you to sit through a video before it will change the volume, that is a different product with a different set of priorities.

Free does not mean your data is the price

Every command the free tier sends goes straight from your iPhone to your Roku across your own Wi-Fi. There is no relay server in the middle, so there is no account to create, no viewing history to collect and nothing about what you watch that ever leaves the house.

Does the free Roku remote app show ads?
