CONNECT ROKU TO WI-FI

Connect Roku to Wi-Fi Without the Original Remote.

Wi-Fi setup stalls when the remote is missing. Remote for Roku supplies the D-Pad and keyboard to finish the network step from your iPhone.

Works over Wi-Fi · no pairing · no original remote required

Step by step

How to fix it: Connect Roku to Wi-Fi.

Each step takes seconds. No original remote, no pairing code, no account required.

  1. Get the Roku onto any network

ECP control needs the Roku reachable on your LAN, over current Wi-Fi or an Ethernet adapter. Once it is reachable, the app can drive the rest of setup.

  2. Open Remote for Roku

On the same network, launch the app. It discovers the Roku via SSDP multicast to 239.255.255.250:1900, filtered for ST: roku:ecp.

  3. Navigate to Network settings

Use the on-screen D-Pad and OK to open Settings, then Network, then Set up connection. Every keypress travels as HTTP on port 8060.

  4. Type the Wi-Fi password from iPhone

Switch to the app keyboard to enter the network name and password directly, instead of hunting letters with a D-Pad. Confirm with OK to join the new Wi-Fi.

Common questions

Connect Roku to Wi-Fi — your questions answered.

Can Remote for Roku connect a brand-new Roku to Wi-Fi with no remote at all?
The app controls a Roku that is already reachable on your network. If the device has never joined any network, it must first reach your LAN — for example over Ethernet — after which the app can complete Wi-Fi setup via ECP.
How do I switch my Roku to a new Wi-Fi network using the app?
Open Settings then Network with the on-screen D-Pad, choose Set up connection, and pick the new network. Use the iPhone keyboard to type the password, then confirm with OK.
Why does the app need my iPhone on the same Wi-Fi as the Roku?
Roku's ECP is a local-network protocol on port 8060. Commands are sent directly between devices on the same LAN, so both the iPhone and the Roku must share the network.
