Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common Roku remote control questions.

Connection and Setup

Can I use my Roku if I have completely lost the original remote?
Yes. The app never needed the physical remote to work. As long as the Roku is powered on and on your Wi-Fi, Auxility Remote finds it and takes over every key — directional pad, OK, Home, Back, volume, mute, power and the playback row — with no pairing code to recover.
My Roku says it is connected but streaming is slow. Why?
Check the wireless channel under Settings, Network, About. If your router runs 5 GHz on a DFS channel and the Roku does not support DFS, it silently connects to the 2.4 GHz band of the same network instead — same name, same status, much slower. Moving the router to a lower or upper 5 GHz channel usually fixes it.
What is Roku Hotel and Dorm Connect?
An official Roku feature for networks with a sign-in page. You start on the device under Settings, Network, Set up new wireless connection, choose the hotel network, then select "I am at a hotel or college dorm" and finish authenticating in a browser on your phone. Roku notes it is available only on select models.

Remote Not Working

Why is my Roku remote not working even with fresh batteries?
If it has a voice button beside the directional pad, it is a voice remote and may have lost its pairing — batteries will not fix that. Hold the pairing button for five seconds, or Back and Home together for five seconds, while the device is also in pairing mode. If it has no voice button it is infrared, and something is probably blocking the path to the device.
What does a blinking green light on my Roku remote mean?
In practice it means the remote is in pairing mode and searching for the player. Worth knowing, though: Roku documents only that the status light flashes during pairing and never states a colour, so "green" is widely observed behaviour rather than an official signal. Only voice remotes pair at all.
My Roku remote battery compartment is corroded. Can I still watch TV?
Yes, immediately. Auxility Remote never touches the hardware remote — it reaches the Roku across your home network — so corrosion, leakage and flat cells have no effect on it. Whether the remote itself is salvageable depends on how far the corrosion has eaten the contacts, and often it is not.

App Features

What is private listening on a Roku?
Roku calls it Headphone Mode. It routes the television's audio to headphones so you can watch at a comfortable volume without disturbing anyone. Roku offers three official routes: its own mobile app, a voice remote with a headphone jack, and Bluetooth headphones paired directly to supported devices.
How does voice search work if my Roku remote has no microphone?
The microphone is your iPhone's. You hold the button in the app and speak; the phrase is converted to text on the phone, and the resulting action is sent to the Roku over Wi-Fi. Whether the remote in your drawer has a microphone makes no difference.
What is the button sequence for the Roku secret menu?
The main platform screen is Home five times, then fast-forward, play, rewind, play, fast-forward. Other screens use different sequences, and two of them — developer settings and channel info — start with Home three times rather than five, which is the most common reason a code appears not to work.

Multiple Devices and Inputs

Can one iPhone control several Roku devices?
Yes, and there is no limit configured in the app. A single network scan finds every Roku that answers, and switching between them is one tap. Because Roku control involves no pairing, adding a fourth or fifth device costs no setup at all.
Can I switch HDMI inputs on a Roku TV from my iPhone?
Yes, on a Roku TV. The app can send the television directly to HDMI 1 through 4, the antenna tuner or AV, which works even when the current input is showing nothing and you cannot navigate visually. Direct switching is a PRO feature; the free directional pad reaches the same input tiles via the Home screen.
How long should I leave my Roku to cool down?
Roku specifies at least ten minutes, in a well-ventilated place, with the power cable unplugged. Be careful taking it out, since the unit may genuinely be hot. If the warning returns shortly after you plug it back in, it has not cooled enough or its position gives it no airflow.

Free vs Premium

What features are free in Auxility Remote?
The core remote — D-Pad, OK, HOME, BACK, VOL+, VOL-, MUTE, instant device discovery, voice search, and keyboard input — is free with no time limit. A one-time or subscription upgrade unlocks Lock Screen widgets, Control Center tile, and Live Activities.
What does the Premium upgrade include?
Premium unlocks three features that extend the remote beyond the app itself: a Lock Screen widget for iOS 18 StandBy mode, a Control Center tile to launch commands without opening the app, and Live Activities that surface now-playing controls in the Dynamic Island.
How do I restore my Premium purchase on a new iPhone?
Open Auxility Remote, go to Settings, and tap Restore Purchases. The app queries the App Store using your Apple ID — no account or code required. Purchases restore within a few seconds on an active internet connection.
